“Faced with the vast expanse of the universe, how minuscule is humankind? How can we not acknowledge our essential insignificance? There is no greater wisdom than to admit that we are itsy-bitsy. There is no denying that we are teensy-weensy, on a little bitty planet barely bigger than a glorified asteroid which is 63 times smaller than Uranus. And as a species, we are hardly very consequential either. In fact, we are so small that it would take more than yo of us to tip the scales against an average elephant. Not that we should be upset about all of this Shouldn't we be delighted to be so puny, so Lilliputian, that for centuries we have been able to mistake our planet for infinite space? Shouldn't we be overjoyed with our Polly Pocket world of tiny towns with their minuscule buildings filled with doll's house furniture? Should we not be content to head out for infinitesimally short Saturday nights bedecked in minuscule glad rags with carefully tended mini-hairdos ready to max out our dinky credit cards in mini-restaurants serving microscopic portions on tiddly little plates. It doesn't get said often enough, but on a cosmic scale, we are the cutest of minikins.“
“However, all things being relative, there are also worlds so small they make us feel like giants: hidden realms inhabited by viruses, germs, bacteria, and other near-invisible critters, which, microscopic though they may be, still have the power to rule over our continued existence. And amidst all of this, there is an art of drawing, which explores minuscule spaces in a bid to invent new worlds and reveal unsuspected beauty. For all things tiny, regardless of their scale, remind us of endless details that we don't see, and hidden dominions we can only imagine.
