It all started as a mistake. When producing vinyl, it’s common for the pressing plant to send you a couple of test pressings to make sure the sound quality is right. Since we were about to tour the U.S., we thought that, because test pressings arrive months before the final records, we could order 150 of them to sell during the tour—as a kind of self-made bootleg: our albums pressed on vinyl but housed only in blank paper sleeves. The idea wasn’t bad, but the test pressings arrived at the end of the tour. So we came back to Mexico with 150 vinyl records and no covers. Fortunately, many of our friends are artists, and instead of seeing this as a setback, we decided to create our own covers.

Test pressings are already unique, but these are even more so—no two are alike. Each record includes a certificate of authenticity signed by the artist who made the intervention.

Beyond that, we wanted to take the project outside of Mexico. Hosting an independent Mexican art exhibition in the U.S., in a DIY way, is something that excites us deeply. It’s been a lot of work, but it has also come together in a very organic way.
We also love bringing together the audiences of visual art and music. These are records you can hang on your wall and also play on your turntable. Some were even made by members of the band themselves.
